Netherlands 0-0 France: an intense match without a winner

The Euro 2024 match between the Netherlands and France ended in a goalless draw, marked by great tension and a controversial VAR decision.

A fierce battle without Mbappé

France, missing their star striker Kylian Mbappé, struggled without their main offensive weapon. Despite numerous chances, notably from Griezmann and Thuram, the French team couldn’t score. Substitutes Giroud and Coman also failed to break through the solid Dutch defense.

Simons’ goal disallowed

At the 69th minute, Xavi Simons thought he had scored for the Netherlands. After a shot by Memphis Depay was saved, Simons picked up the rebound and scored. However, VAR ruled out the goal, deeming Denzel Dumfries offside and obstructing French goalkeeper Mike Maignan. This decision caused frustration among the Dutch players and fans.

Concerns for les bleus

Despite the draw, France has not yet conceded a goal in this tournament, thanks to an effective defense and a strong midfield with Kanté and Rabiot. However, offensive inefficiency is worrying. After two matches, France has only scored one goal, and even that was an own goal by Austria.

The French team needs to show more sharpness in their final group match against Poland to qualify for the next stage. Mbappé, still recovering from injury, might return for this crucial match.

France and the Netherlands must quickly find offensive solutions to continue their Euro 2024 campaign.
